This medieval city may be the location of historic Gokana in the Mahavamsa (Great Chronicle), and its Shiva temple may be the location of Trikuta Hill in the Hindu classic Vayu Purana. Most visitors pass through the city on their route to the surrounding beaches of Uppuveli and Nilaveli, but the town has some charm, a lot of history, and an eclectic mix of people. Trincomalee's magnificent deep-water port has changed ownership seven times and is a rich source of history and culture. It's simple to spend a day on the beaches of Trincomalee, exploring the intricacies of the fort and its famed temple.

Furthermore, Kandy is tucked in the highlands at an elevation of 488 meters and is about 115 kilometers from Colombo. As you rose to over 2000 meters above sea level, the temperature dropped. That's not the only surprise; from the red brick Victorian-style postoffice to the quaint colonial-style buildings now operating as guest rooms and restaurants, it's easy to understand how it earned the nickname "Little England."
